Spring is a very important time for your lawn. As the grass starts to thaw and grow, it’s time to perform some extra maintenance to ensure that the exterior of your home is ready for all those summer barbecues and outdoor activities. Spring lawn care doesn’t need to be difficult, either. Here are some simple things you can do to get your yard on track.

Spring Lawn Care Guide

1. Perform Some Lawn Cleanup

Before you start tending to your grass, clear any extra materials. Rake any leaves and other debris that may have accumulated over the winter. This allows you to start with a clean slate and accurately assess the needs of your lawn.

2. Add Seed to Bare Patches

If you notice patches that aren’t growing consistently with the rest of the lawn, purchase seeds to fill that in. Loosen up the soil in that area, then add the seeds and a thin layer of compost or fertilizer to jump-start your lawn’s growth in that spot.

3. Aerate

4. Fertilize

After you’ve begun mowing the lawn for the season, apply some fertilizer to the soil. Use a variety that is optimized for spring usage, which should include a pound of nitrogen material to kick-start your lawn’s health.

5. Get on a Regular Watering Schedule

Throughout the spring and summer, it’s also important for you to water your lawn regularly. Get on a schedule now so you can start out with a healthy lawn and keep it that way going forward. It’s best to do your watering in the morning or evening so that the moisture doesn’t evaporate too quickly.
