With the temperatures heating up, you can finally step away from the gym and exercise on the beach. Working out on the sand provides extra resistance, protects against injuries, and gives you some vitamin D. The orthopedic doctors at IMUA Orthopedics, Sports & Health in Honolulu, HI, share some of the best exercises to do on the beach.

5 Exercises to Do on the Beach

1. Sand Skips

With this exercise, you simply skip through the sand as high as you can. The sand provides excellent resistance, which will help build the muscles in your legs and glutes.

2. Running

Running on the sand provides more resistance than running on the pavement, so you will get a great workout and burn more calories. As you are jogging through the sand, you can enjoy the view of the beautiful ocean.

3. Beach Crawl

If you want to get give your hamstrings and glutes a workout, orthopedic doctors recommend the beach crawl. To do this exercise, position yourself into a plank and then crawl forward on your hands and feet for 30 seconds. Repeat as many times as you would like.

4. Lunges

orthopedic doctors Lunges build strong legs, and performing them on the sand can be extra challenging since you’ll be on an incline. Begin this exercise by putting one leg forward and lowering your hips until both of your knees are bent at a 90-degree angle. Then, do the same move with your other leg.

5. Swimming

Before you leave the beach, spend some time swimming in the ocean. It’s fun and will work out every muscle in your body. Try to swim when the ocean current isn’t too strong.
