The Fountain of Youth may be an elusive concept, but folks who want to limit the signs of aging can undergo a Botox® procedure. This non-invasive process has highly effective results and can drastically improve the appearance of laugh and worry lines, crow’s feet, and other facial wrinkles. Kailua Kona’s leading reconstructive surgery expert, Dr. David K. Hiranaka, M.D., D.M.D., explains everything you need to know to about your Botox appointment, including prepping and aftercare tips.

Prior to the Procedure

It’s critical for your doctor to have a thorough understanding of your entire medical history and overall health before the injections. Dr. Hiranaka and his staff will interview you to glean a deep perspective of your history, in addition to conducting a full eye exam to decide which injection sites are optimal.

The Procedure

Botox injections are nothing to be afraid of. The actual procedure doesn’t include any anesthesia and is almost painless. You may feel a tiny sting when the injection is first made. You also need to be aware that Botox results aren’t permanent and you may need to undergo repeated treatments for prolonged desired results. For patients over 65, dramatic results may not be as visible, as Botox is used to primarily treat expression lines and does not correct sagging skin due to aging.

Aftercare Tips

Once you undergo the Botox treatment, you may experience bruising at the injection site, which quickly fades. You may resume normal activities right away, as the only potential side effects are weakness of nearby muscles or droopy eyelids. Botox is fully reversible, and Dr. Hiranaka will gladly answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Dr. Hiranaka also specializes in a variety of other cosmetic surgery procedures, including non-surgical face lifts, laser treatment for the face, neck lift surgery, plastic surgery nose procedures, and eye plastic surgery.
