Educational Background

orthopedic surgeonDr. Ignacio grew up right here in Honolulu and graduated from ‘Iolani School. She began her career of academic distinction early on as a National Merit Scholar. She earned both her B.S. in science and medical degree at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

During her orthopedic surgery residency at Georgetown, she assisted the National Institutes of Health in lab research and received an award for her cartilage research from the Washington DC Orthopedic Society. She then moved to Long Beach, CA, for her orthopedist fellowship training in sports medicine, arthroscopic, and reconstructive surgery at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine. She was the first female in history to be accepted to the fellowship program and joined the practice as the first female faculty member after completing her fellowship.

Current Accolades

Dr. Ignacio is board certified in orthopedic surgery and specializes in sports medicine, as well as advanced arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery. She is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Hawai’i and is an elected member of the Hawai’i Orthopedic Association. Giving back to her community is important to her, so she volunteers with many organizations she is passionate about. To name just a few, she serves as a Volunteer Physician and Orthopedic Consultant for the University of Hawai’i Department of Athletics, volunteers with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, and is a Director on the boards for the ‘Iolani Alumni Association, Women’s Fund of Hawai’i, and the Positive Coaching Alliance Hawai’i.
