Children are especially susceptible to diseases and illness. That’s why families feed them nutritious foods and encourage healthy habits at an early age. You can prevent your little ones from contracting diseases with simple, well-timed vaccinations as they age. To learn why these shots and their timing are important, read on as local pediatric team from PrimaryPlus  share three reasons to bring your kids in for their shots.

Every Kid Should Get Their Vaccinations on Time for These 3 Reasons

1. To Protect Your Family’s Health

When children don’t have vaccines, they are susceptible to diseases that could have otherwise been prevented. That may mean they get sick with something, like the measles, and bring that contagious disease into your home. By visiting a pediatrician to learn about vaccination schedules, you can mitigate the likelihood of your family being affected by preventable diseases. Talk to your doctor to learn what vaccines your children should get and when they’ll be the most effective. Back-to-school season is the best time to have your child's immunization status reviewed and updated as needed. Effective July 1st, Kentucky has updated requirements on vaccines to help prevent Hepatitis A and four types of meningitis. If you child has not yet received these vaccines, now is the perfect time to schedule an appointment. If you are unsure if you child needs these vaccines, we are happy to help! You may call our immunization coordinator Amanda Kidwell at (606) 202-7396 and she will be happy to review your child's records and discuss any immunizations that may be needed.

2. Because They Are Safe
Vaccines have been proven safe and effective by organizations, like the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. These groups exist to promote the health of American people, and their only goals are to provide guidelines and advice to help individuals and families have the highest quality of life possible. They’ve studied the vaccines and shown that getting these shots, nasal sprays, and oral medications as a child are crucial since they improve immunity. Amanda Kidwell, our immunization coordinator who is a Registered Nurse and mother had this to say to parents, "If you have concerns about the safety of certain vaccines, I'm happy to help! I can direct you to reputable sources of vaccine information, and I invite you to contact me to discuss any questions you may have when it comes to vaccine recommendations for your child."

3. To Save You Money
Vaccines cost hundreds of dollars over the course of a lifetime. Treating preventable diseases, on the other hand, can cost thousands of dollars in medications, hospital stays, and missed work or school. You’ll save money in the long run by heading to your pediatrician for vaccines today. PrimaryPlus is a proud participant in the Vaccines For Children (VFC) program that provides vaccines at no cost to children who qualify!

Vaccine timing is crucial for immunizations to work properly and to protect your family’s health. Discuss the necessary shot appointments with your pediatric team so you can ensure that your family is on top of their vaccinations.
