Art doesn’t come to mind in connection to the scrap metal industry, Metalico Rochester believes that art can in fact come from metal scrap. There are many ways to create art, and today, more and more pieces of art are coming from unexpected places, like scrap metal yards. By repurposing metal recycling, Metalico believes that we can help make communities more eco-friendly, as well as more beautiful.

Metalico Rochester commissioned a local artist, Dejan Pejovic, to create a new entrance gate to their Scottsville Road plot made entirely of metal found in their scrap yard. Pejovic constructed a gate made to look like scales, symbolizing the importance of weighing metal for trade. The gate itself weighs three tons and is more than 60 feet wide. It also includes a counterweight system, which is approximately 7,500 pounds on each side of the gate, to perfectly balance the weight of the structure.

It was celebrated openly at an unveiling event in October of 2013 where Metalico’s employees, customers and local dignitaries supported the business' resourcefulness to make their community, a more “green” and beautiful place. In attendance were New York Senator Joe Robach, United States Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and the Chili Town Supervisor David Dunning.

In May of 2014, Metalico Rochester received the Culture and Arts Award from The Gates Chili Chamber of Commerce for “strengthening the understanding, appreciation, and support of art and culture as an integral part of community life.”

"The gate from inception to completion has been approached with the same passion and pride as Metalico approaches customer service. Metalico is dedicated to serving its customers. We operate an environmentally conscious business. We listen to our customers’ needs and offer innovative solutions. This results in unparalleled service and secures lifetime partnerships," says Bob Frank, VP of Commercial Industrial Business, Upstate NY.

Metalico Rochester is truly on its way to making a worldwide statement about recyclable materials.
