If you’re an adrenaline junkie, it’s no surprise skydiving is on your bucket list. It produces a thrill you can’t get from any other activity. When you do it for the first time, don’t forget to bring these five important items to stay safe and fully enjoy the unique experience of falling to the earth.

What to Bring for Your First Skydive

1. Sneakers or Tennis Shoes

Make sure to bring or wear closed-toe shoes, preferably with laces. Avoid wearing sandals or high heels. Also, don’t wear heavy boots that could weigh you down and cause a more jarring landing. Light sneakers are the best footwear to have on to ensure a smooth landing.

2. Government-Issued Photo ID

skydivingYou can’t go skydiving without a photo ID, whether that’s your driver’s license or your passport. It proves you’re at least 18 years of age and can legally make the jump.

3. Glasses or Contact Lenses

If you need glasses or contact lenses to see, wear them. You don’t want to miss out on the beautiful scenery because you were afraid your glasses would fall off or your contacts would fly out. The company you jump with will give you goggles to protect your eyewear.

4. Proper Clothing

In addition to closed-toe shoes, wear a T-shirt as opposed to a tank top. Depending on when you go skydiving, you might need to throw on a light jacket or hoodie as well. If you have long hair, bring a hair tie to put it up so it doesn’t fly into the instructor’s face as you’re falling.

5. Snacks & Water

It’s recommended you eat a meal prior to arriving at the skydiving facility. Then, before getting onto the plane, you’ll be required to go through ground school, which includes some downtime. If you get hungry or thirsty, you’ll be grateful to have snacks and water with you. Stay away from caffeine and energy drinks, though, since you’ll have an adrenaline rush once you’re in the air.
