The macOS® High Sierra is the latest Apple® upgrade. If you’re a Mac® user, you’ve probably received a notification to update your device. Here are the major changes you’ll see with the new macOS High Sierra.

File System Update

The most significant change is a new Apple File System. The new system makes copying and determining the size of files and folders much easier with a technique called “instant cloning.” It also includes built-in encryption and protection for system crashes or power outages, as well as data backup. It is also compatible with Hierarchical File System (HFS)-formatted disks, making backup even simpler.

Video Improvements

High Sierra also includes a video upgrade called Apple High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC). Most users shoot video in high definition, which uses more space than its lower-resolution counterpart. As a result, video files take up a significant amount of space on your hard drive. With HEVC, users can use more compression on videos without sacrificing quality, thus increasing storage space. The Apple upgrade also provides more photo-editing options, including Curve, which offers more opportunities for adjusting contrast, color, and hues.

Safari® Upgrades

An updated Safari also comes with the latest Apple upgrade. The new Safari allows you to shut off autoplay videos, whereas previous iterations alerted you as to what tab was playing audio. Furthermore, Safari in High Sierra includes advanced privacy settings, identifying advertising trackers and removing cross-site tracking data.

Check Before You Decide to Upgrade

The macOS® High Sierra is optimized for Solid State Drive. If you have a rotational magnet disk drive on your computer, there’s a chance that the upgrade might significantly slow down your computer or even create issues that you haven’t seen before. If you are not sure whether you need to upgrade to High Sierra, please contact Experimac Canton OH for better understanding of the upgrade.
