If your vehicle suddenly has problems functioning when you’re driving in the middle of the night, a 24-hour towing service will bring both you and your car to safety. However, it’s important to know how to keep yourself protected from potential dangers as you wait for the tow truck to arrive.

How to Remain Safe When Waiting for 24-Hour Towing

1. Pull Over in the Right Place

If you need to pull over immediately, do so slowly and onto the side of the road. If your vehicle can make it farther, try to find a parking lot. Once you’re parked, keep your doors locked and your seat belt on. If you’re on the side of a busy highway and must get out of your car due to an overheated engine or other hazardous situation, exit through the passenger side door to avoid traffic.

2. Increase Your Vehicle’s Visibility

A 24-hour towing service may need to find your vehicle at night, so turn on your hazard lights. You should also pack an emergency kit with reflectors and other items that point to your location. Get back into your locked vehicle after placing the markers. These steps will alert the tow truck in addition to other drivers of your presence.

3. Get Information About the Tow Truck Technician

When you call the towing company, ask for the name and description of the individual coming to get you. This information is particularly important at night when there might not be other vehicles around. If you feel unsafe, let the tow company know and they can call the police department to dispatch an officer to wait with you.
