Here, they share their best tips for prepping your garden for springtime.

3 Landscaping Tips to Prepare Your Garden for Spring

1. Remove All Debris

Once wintertime is behind you, it’s time to clean up after the long hiatus. Your garden may be filled with branches, leaves, and other debris brought down by winter storms. Remove these, along with any early weeds you notice developing in your garden.

2. Nourish Your Soil

landscapingHealthy soil is better able to support plant life. To prime it for a bountiful season, start by turning it over using a pitchfork. Then, incorporate some manure or compost to provide additional nutrients. Rake it out, and allow the manure or compost to sink in for at least two full weeks before planting.

3. Plan Your Plants

Finally, decide which types of plant life you’ll incorporate into your garden, as well as their locations. Are you envisioning an herb, flower, or vegetable garden? Most seeds can be planted indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the final frost, then transferred outside when the weather is milder. Seedlings, on the other hand, can typically be planted later in the season.
