Tips on Properly Storing Your Contact Lenses, Stallings, North Carolina

If you wear contact lenses, you know that keeping them clean is crucial to preventing eye infections. The way you take care of your lenses is just one aspect to consider, as proper storage is key to protecting your eyes. Accordingly, First Choice Eye Care OD of Matthews, NC, recommends the following tips.

How to Store Contact Lenses

Make Sure the Case Is Clean

Much like the lenses themselves, it’s crucial to keep your case clean. Before you begin, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and hot water. Empty the container of the previous night’s solution and rinse, using only a specially designed solution for cleaning and soaking lenses. You can also gently rub your finger inside the case to remove debris that may have accumulated. Rinse the case one last time before drying it with a clean cloth.

Use New Solution Every Night

Contact lenses should be completely submersed in fluid to avoid drying out and cracking. Additionally, you should never top off existing fluid by adding more. This is a major contributor to eye infections, which, in some cases, can become quite severe.

Replace Your Case as Needed

It’s also recommended that contact-wearers swap out their cases regularly—at least once every three months. Ask your eye doctor exactly how often you should replace your case; some recommend a new one on a monthly basis to eliminate the risk of complications.

Whether you have questions about storing your contact lenses or are searching for a new pair of glasses, First Choice Eye Care OD offers effective service with a friendly demeanor.
