Being that most people who live in Hawaii practically live in bikinis, easy cover-ups are essential to any #bowbabes closet! Sarongs, pareos or lava lavas are a popular and easy cover-up for any beach day. The versatility of the cotton or rayon strip of fabric can also double as a tanning bed (instead of getting your towel sandy).

1. Skirt

The easiest way to wear a sarong is by making it into a chic skirt. All you have to do is tie corners along the same length of the fabric at the hip, and you’re set. Adjusting the skirt to a shorter length is simple, just fold the pareo in half and tie.

This style is perfect if you decide to walk the strip in Waikiki after the beach, with a little more coverage than just your swimwear. To do this, hold the sarong vertically in front of the body and tie the two top corners around the back of the neck, tying with a double knot. Twist the sarong in the front to create a keyhole accent. Gather two edges at the waist, wrap around the back and secure it with a double knot and you’re done!

3. Jumpsuit

This look will create a “bohemian beach babe” vibe. Hold the pareo vertically in front of the body. Then, wrap the two top corners around the back and tie with a double knot. Pull the bottom of the sarong through the legs and grab the two back corners to wrap around and tie at the front of the waist.

4. Head Wrap

Having a bad hair day has never been sarong head wrap hawaiibeachier! Grab your sarong to create a fun head wrap. Put your hair into a bun, then place the sarong (you might want to fold it in half, depending on the length of the sarong) at the back of your head, making sure the fabric is lowered to the nape of your neck. Then, pull the ends towards the front to tie the wrap into a knot at the center. Fold the fabric until it creates an oversized bow and hide the ends of the wrap by tucking them into the bow flaps.

At Born of the Water, we have a variety of sarong patterns and colors by West Indies.
