If you rely on an air compressor in your line of work, then providing it with the proper maintenance is important to keep it running and minimize service interruptions. There are multiple air compressor parts that each have different needs, so you’ll find the following guide helpful. Here are some maintenance tips to ensure your compressor runs correctly.

3 Tips to Help Maintain Your Air Compressor

1. Clean Heat Exchangers

Your compressor can heat up quickly: its heat exchangers help lower its operating temperature and enhance performance. Over time they will collect dirt and debris that need to be cleaned away, so wipe them down if they’re showing any signs of buildup. Doing so will enable your compressor to function at peak performance levels.

To inspect the air filter of your compressor, disconnect it from its power source and allow it to cool completely. You’ll then need to unscrew its filter top by turning the base counter-clockwise. Then you can remove the filter to inspect it for dirt and debris. At this point, determine whether a simple cleaning will do the trick, or if it’s so dirty it needs to be replaced.

3. Replace Compressor Pump Oil

Any oil in your air compressor will be extremely hot if it’s been in use, so wait for it to cool before inspection. To replace it, make sure the compressor is on a flat surface and remove the fill cap. Place a pan to collect the spent oil, then remove the drainage cap and let it drain. Afterward, fill the compressor with the proper amount of oil and replace the cap.
