Whether you’re in catering, landscaping, or plumbing, one of the best ways to promote your business is by investing in vehicle wraps. Made of high-quality vinyl, these decals allow for a level of detail that only the most expensive and time-consuming paint jobs could achieve. If you’re managing a fleet of vehicles, wraps are the best way to ensure uniformity. However, while the overall process is speedy, the preparation is something you don’t want to rush through.

Comprehensive Wash Without Wax

The day before you’re scheduled to have the decal applied, you’ll need to have your car washed as thoroughly as possible. While it may seem better to have it cleaned the same day as the application, there'll probably still be some damp areas, especially in the crevices. Proper adhesion requires the body to be 100% dry; otherwise, the wrap could bubble up.

vehicle wrapsWhether you choose to do the washing yourself or a professional car wash facility is your choice, it needs to include the often-neglected areas, like door jambs and the underside of the fenders. Once it’s washed, skip the wax; like water, it prevents vehicle wraps from completely sticking due to the inherent slipperiness.

Isopropyl Alcohol or Solvent Wash

In addition to forgoing the wax, it helps to give your car another wipe down with isopropyl alcohol or an automotive-friendly oil-removing solvent. More commonly known as “rubbing alcohol,” isopropyl alcohol is best for vehicles that weren’t heavily soiled before the wash.

If yours was very muddy and dirty, then a solvent is preferable. If you’re doing the preparation work on your own and using solvent, carefully follow the instructions, wearing the proper protective safety gear and making sure the area is well-ventilated.
