For the second year in a row, the National Asphalt Pavement Association has presented Midsouth Pavingwith the prestigious “Larry H. Lemon Quality in Construction Award.” More commonly known in the industry as the “Lemon Award,” it’s awarded to 10 asphalt paving contractors throughout the United States each year.

Larry H. Lemon Quality in Construction Award

Named after the former Chairman of NAPA who was integral in creating a rating system for quality, the Lemon Award applies to projects that use less than 50,000 tons of asphalt. Everything from highways to parking lots is eligible, but the project must have been completed within the year of application, and it must be already accessible to the public. When contractors submit a particular project for consideration, the nominations are examined by engineers from the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) and, after various tests, are given a numerical grade. If it meets or surpasses a particular number, it will be deemed worthy of the award.
