Our next incredible alum is Xyla Foxlin who attended PCP from 2009 to 2012. Xyla is an engineer and entrepreneur. She is the founder and CEO of Parihug, http://www.parihug.com/. Xyla was also featured in a Microsoft commercial playing her electric violin! Click here to see the video: https://twitter.com/surface/status/897848533675651073.
Xyla says, “PCP is the first place I felt like I belonged as I grew into an adult who was so different from everyone around me. Even though I didn't end up pursuing music professionally, PCP taught me how to be passionate, pursue what I love, and it gave me a work ethic that can only be born out of those two things. I made some of the best friends I've ever had in just a few short weeks at PCP.”
One of Xyla’s most important memories of PCP involved her chamber group. She recalls, “My first rehearsal with Ethan and Bethany on a Bach quartet and later the Dvorak American. Those two musicians were the most inspiring people I had ever met-- they taught me how to truly work hard for something I wanted to achieve. When Miho told us we wouldn't be ready to play the American at the final concert, I remember the three of us standing out on the dock rehearsing for hours, determined to do it anyway. I've carried that feeling with me ever since, and whenever someone tells me I can't do something, I look at them and think ‘well, we played the American quartet.’”
