High Point Insurance Agent on 3 Pothole Driving Tips, High Point, North Carolina

If you’re concerned about safety while driving, knowing how to handle potholes is of the utmost importance. Not only can these wreak havoc on your tires, alignment, and other inner workings of your car, but they can compromise your safety as well. Dewey Beckner of Allstate Insurance Companies has provided insurance products to his High Point, NC, clientele for more than 20 years. Below, he and his team outline how to drive when parts if the road is compromised.

Insurance Agent’s Guide to Potholes

1. Preliminary Measures

Have the tread on your tires checked and ensure they’re properly inflated based on your vehicle’s manual. Tires who don’t meet this criterion are more likely to get punctured by a pothole. Also, the shocks and struts in your car can break and the body of the vehicle can become damaged.

2. Maneuverability

If you can’t avoid a pothole, there are ways to drive over it that will cause fewer issues with your car. Hold the steering wheel firmly. Don’t brake directly over it, as this will cause more damage. Instead, slow down. If you notice that your car pulls to the right or left after the winter season, the pothole may have resulted in alignment issues. Visit a mechanic if this occurs.

3. Response Time

insuranceWhile the DMV recommends keeping two car lengths between your car and the one in front of you, many drivers tend to neglect this advice. However, by slowing down and keeping extra distance between you and the car in front of you, you are providing yourself with additional reaction time to prepare for or avoid driving over potholes.

If you’re concerned about how to drive safely or you want to discuss potential insurance quotes with a professional agent, Dewey Beckner of Allstate Insurance Company is on hand to assist you. With years of experience, he and his team will look at your overall coverage and identify gaps that might place you at risk.
