If your blender whirls to a stop mid-smoothie, or the lights flicker or go out entirely, these issues likely point to a problem with your electrical system. AA Electric Ltd, providing electrical services to Honolulu since 1947, has some key tips for how to tell if your circuit breaker is working correctly.

  • The first thing to do when starting any home electrical repair is to turn off all plugged-in electrical devices to ensure against accidentally overloading a circuit and starting a fire. Next, locate your breaker box, which are usually located in the basement.
  • Before opening the breaker box, make sure that there is no water on the floor or condensation around the box. Water near a circuit breaker is very dangerous, so if there is any fluid you should call an electrician.
  • Open the box and look for a breaker that is switched in the opposite direction of the rest. Check the area around that breaker for signs of burning or singed plastic, and check for any loose wires; if you find either, call a qualified electrician for assistance.
  • If the breaker looks normal, then switch it back to match the other breakers, making sure it clicks firmly into place. Turn on your electrical devices one at a time so as not to overload the circuit; if you have too many devices running on one circuit, you should call an electrical company for service.
  • If your breaker continues to go out, then you will need the help of electrical contracting services to determine the cause.
