1. Camelthorn

Camelthorn is a perennial weed with pink, white, or purple flowers and stems that grow up to four feet tall. They often grow near water or areas where the soil has been disturbed, and they have an extensive root system. They are especially hardy, and to control weeds of its kind, it’s more effective to remove them by hand and ensure you pull out the entire root.

2. Canada Thistle

A thorny, creeping pest, Canada thistles often reside in pastures, fields, or roadsides. Their flowers are typically pink, purple, or white and grow in clusters, and the plant is covered with prickly spines. It’s best to catch them early on in their infestation to ensure they don’t return.

3. Musk Thistle

Also known as nodding or plumeless thistle, musk thistle is a tall, beautiful, and resilient weed with pink or purple spiny, spherical blooms. If you find these in your yard, do not mow over them once they’ve flowered; this only makes them spread and is not an effective way to control weeds. Try mowing before they’ve flowered or use an herbicide to remove them.

4. Russian Knapweed

Control WeedsRussian star thistle or knapweed grows up to three feet tall and is covered with dense gray fuzz. An especially hardy plant that is difficult to eliminate, techniques such as herbicides are best done during early detection.

5. Dyer’s Woad 

A leafy plant that is blue-green with small yellow flowers, dyer’s woad needs to be removed before the flowering phase to be successfully eliminated. Though stubborn, they can be remedied with herbicide.
