Veneers are thin shells that are custom-designed to bond with the front of a tooth. If you’re planning to get veneers to mask misalignment or stained teeth, you should be aware of the foods you must avoid after the treatment. Consuming any of the below foods could shorten the lifespan of the treatment or cause damage to the veneers.

3 Types of Foods You Should Avoid After Getting Veneers

1. Hard Foodveneers

After getting veneers, it’s best to avoid eating hard foods such as tough meat, crusty bread, and ice. Chewing on these foods could chip the veneers or even pull the shells from your teeth. If you do want to eat a meal that consists of tougher foods, use your back teeth to chew so you can protect the veneers.

2. Staining Foods

Dark colored drinks such as coffee, dark teas, and soda can stain the veneers. If you must drink them, use a straw as this will allow the liquid to pass through the teeth and minimize the chance of staining. You should also brush your teeth immediately after or rinse your mouth out with water.

3. Alcohol

Drinking alcohol can soften the bonding agent. Over time, this will weaken the bond of the porcelain veneers to your teeth and possibly cause it to detach. Only rinse with mouthwash that is free from alcohol, or try a solution of water and hydrogen peroxide.
