Whether you have a hot tub or a swimming pool, you know regular maintenance is crucial to keep them clean, safe, and looking beautiful. If you don’t use a professional pool service, you want to be sure you choose the proper methods and maintenance routines to ensure comfort and safety. The Pool Guys have installed and serviced pools in Troy, MO, for more than 30 years, and have some important do’s and don’ts to abide by below.

Do

Check the Pool Frequently

poolsAn easy way to keep your pool and its filtration system happy is to simply check it a few times a week by doing a walk around. Look for debris and leaves and remove with a net, be sure water is clear and that levels are at a good place, and keep an eye out for any cracks or leaks. If you see anything out of the ordinary, you can call your pool contractors to come in and service it to avoid any bigger issues.

Check Chemicals Regularly

Balancing your chemicals is one of the most important pool maintenance tasks you can do. Using tools to ensure the calcium hardness, pH balance, and free chlorine levels are safe will make swimming more safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Don’t

Dump Chlorine in One Place

It may be easy to just put your chlorine tablets in the basket and walk away, but this is hard on your pump and can cause buildup and even bleach spots in the areas they sit in. It’s important to evenly distribute the chlorine tablet as best you can by moving the dissolving tablets around with your skimmer.

Add Water to Chemicals

Never add water to your acids or chemicals. Always add the acid to your water to dilute. Using a bucket for this process can be safe and helpful.
