CrossFit® incorporates different elements from a wide range of sports to offer a full body workout. From aerobic exercise to weightlifting, the chance of injury can be high without proper conditioning and coaching. To make sure a sprain or other severe problems don’t leave you out of commission, there are three common CrossFit injuries to keep on your radar.

3 Common CrossFit® Injuries to Avoid During Your Workout

1. Lower Back Inflammation

CrossFit®People often focus on arms and legs when lifting weights and additional items during CrossFit training, but moving heavy objects gives every part of the body a workout. Without proper stretching beforehand, you could easily pull muscles in the lower back during a training session. The inflammation can come as a dull throbbing or painful shooting sensation. To reduce the risk of injury, put just as much care into prepping for a session as you do the actual workout.

2. Achilles Tendon Rupture

It’s natural to feel a tingling sensation in your legs when attempting high jumps. If the burn doesn’t appear to go away or transforms into discomfort, it’s best to seek medical help immediately. Jumping places puts stress on the Achilles tendon, which could rupture it if it’s left unchecked. To alleviate pain in the legs and avoid Achilles tendonitis, rub your calf muscles before and after each workout to loosen them up, and make sure you stretch.

3. Tennis Elbow

Attempting any repetitive motion can bring on tennis elbow, which is why the injury often plagues CrossFit enthusiasts. Lifting weights and kettlebells can cause the lateral elbow pain. If you experience persistent discomfort, take a break from the training regimen to give your muscles a chance to rest and heal.
