The dress, the cake, the music, the flowers—you want to remember your special day forever. What better memento of your wedding than the bouquets you used? If you’d like to keep your blooms as a reminder of your wedding day, here are a few different ways to preserve your wedding flowers.

Preserving Your Wedding Flowers as Keepsakes

Hang the Bouquets

One way to keep your arrangements is to hang them upside down. If your flowers aren’t already in bouquets, tie them together and hang them by the stems in a dry area. They should be fully dried in a couple of weeks. This is a simple way to preserve them, and there are no costs involved.

Another way to preserve wedding flowers is by using silica gel, which consists of porous granules that absorb water. Simply place your blooms in an airtight container without bending the petals, and pour silica gel in to fill it to the top. Seal the container and check back in a week. When they’re completely dried, spray your bouquets with hairspray or fixative spray to retain their lifelike appearance.

Press the Flowers

For this technique, you’ll need parchment paper. Lay the paper inside a heavy book, such as a dictionary or encyclopedia, and put flowers on top. Cover them with another sheet of parchment paper and close the book. In a week to 10 days, you’ll have elegant pressed flowers that you can display by framing or gluing them to card stock.
