The geothermal tax credit is back!  We will be contacting all of our customers that installed a geothermal unit between 1/1/2017 & 2/8/2018.  If you installed a geothermal system during this time frame, we encourage you to contact the company that installed it right away.  They will be able to complete the certificate necessary for you to take advantage of the federal tax credit.

Thanks to the hard work of GEO (Geothermal Exchange Organization) and our customers and advocates calling on their representative and senators, the 30% tax credit for residential geothermal heating, cooling, and hot water systems is back!

If you're involved in the commercial sector, the 10% tax credit for geothermal has been reinstated for those applications, as well.

What does this mean for you?

•  Retroactive: This tax credit is retroactive. Homeowners who bought a geothermal heating, cooling, and hot water system from January 1, 2017 till now qualify for the 30% credit.

• Expiration Date: The tax credit will be at 30% until December 31, 2019. In 2020 the tax credit will begin to phase out, dropping to 26%, and in 2021 it lowers to 22 percent. The tax credit will expire on December 31, 2021.

As we move forward in a geothermal tax credit world, don't hesitate to remind home and building owners of the many economic and environmental benefits of geothermal before you pitch the tax credit. The tax credit is the cherry on top; it's not the sole reason to purchase.
