It can be difficult to tell if your cat isn’t feeling well, but there are some sure-fire indicators you can identify if you pay close attention. If you notice anything different or odd about your cat, take a moment to determine if it warrants a visit to your local vet. Below, learn some signals that your cat could be ill.

3 Ways to Tell if Your Cat Is Unwell

1. Sudden Change in Weight

If your cat is typically chubby and they suddenly lose weight, or your normally slender cat gains a few pounds, try to identify the cause. If there seems to be no apparent reason for their change in weight, it could be cause for concern. Take them to the vet to determine if their drop or gain in weight indicates a more serious underlying issue.

2. Vomiting & Bowel Problems

If your cat starts to vomit repeatedly, that could be a sign of an issue. If you start noticing diarrhea or constipation, your cat could be eating something harmful or potentially have a hairball. Blood in your cat’s stool, urine, or vomit could be a sign of a UTI or parasites, so take them to the vet as soon as possible to decipher the problem.

3. Changes in Behavior

VetCats can be moody and quirky, but if your normally vivacious and friendly cat is suddenly listless and lethargic, monitor them closely. If a typically mild-mannered cat suddenly becomes aggressive toward you, they could be ill or in pain, and it’s best to let your vet discern their troubles.
