Outdoor events are fantastic during spring and summer when the weather is pleasant, and people are excited to soak up the sun. Outdoor venues can also be more affordable than indoor ones, in some cases. For your event to be as successful as possible, though, it’s critical to have enough portable toilets. The experience of waiting too long for the bathroom or the smell of overworked port-a-potties are easily enough to upset a guest, and it may be one of the first things they complain about to their friends afterward. To ensure all your attendees have a great experience, keep these tips in mind while selecting the right number of portable units.

Start With the Number of Guests

portable toiletObviously, the more guests there will be at your event, the more portable toilets you’ll need. A good place to start is at least one port-a-potty per 50 guests—however, this number will change based on other factors. There should be at least one handicapped toilet per 20 units.

Increase Portable Toilets Based on Event Length

How long will your event last? If it spans multiple days, how long will the longest day be? If it lasts longer than about four hours, you’ll need about one or two more portable toilets per 50 people.

Add More Port-a-Potties If Alcohol Is Served

Generally, people use the bathroom a lot more frequently when they’ve been drinking alcohol. Consider increasing the number of units by at least 20%, or as much as 40%, if the event will last all day or the day is forecasted to be extremely hot.
