Plenty of individuals have experience with messy dresser drawers. They open a drawer attempting to locate a pair of socks or a favorite t-shirt only to find it has been swallowed by other clothes or pushed over the drawer back and onto the floor. Rather than digging through clothing piles every day, put some decluttering tips into practice. You will save yourself both time and aggravation.

Important Tips for Decluttering Dresser Drawers

1. Remove & Cull

Start the decluttering process by taking everything out of your drawers to see what you do not want or need anymore. Donate unwanted clothing in good condition to family and friends or local consignment/thrift stores and throw out or recycle anything that is too worn-out or faded. Some old clothes make great cleaning rags or craft projects.

2. Hang Up Bulky Items

Take out bulky items that require too much space and make your dresser drawers difficult to close, such as sweaters and sweatshirts. Hang them in your closet if you have room or place them in plastic bins that slide under your bed. Overstuffing drawers is never recommended because it puts too much pressure on the furniture and contributes to premature wear.

3. Create Categories

declutteringSection your dresser drawers by categories, such as using the top drawer for socks, underwear, and pajamas, another drawer for tank tops and t-shirts, and another for jeans and lounge pants. If you can, create more categories within the drawers, such as keeping old t-shirts together and placing nice camisole tops in the same area.

4. Use Dividers

Further optimize your categorization efforts by using plastic organizers to create rows. This is especially helpful for smaller drawer items, such as socks and underwear. Group them by color, if you have the room, or any other way you see fit to save considerable time searching for that blue sock or another small item.

5. Work With Seasonal Items Only

Rotate the contents by season. Place items you do not need right now, such as bathing suits and shorts, in plastic storage bins. Keeping seasonal items within easy reach is another fantastic way to avoid overstuffed drawers and the problems they create.
