3 of the Most Common Side Effects of Pregnancy, Covington, Kentucky

Everyone should prioritize health and wellness, but those who are expecting need to listen to their bodies more closely than the average person. If something feels off for any reason, they should visit their OB-GYN as soon as possible. To know what’s normal, though, they must first familiarize themselves with the most common side effects of pregnancy. The women’s health team at HealthPoint Family Care in Northern Kentucky, shares a guide, below.

Ask an OB-GYN: What Can I Expect During Pregnancy?

1. Fatigue

For a lot of women, fatigue is one of the earliest symptoms of pregnancy. Unfortunately for some, this chronic drowsiness can last for much or all of the pregnancy. The best way to combat pregnancy-related fatigue is by getting plenty of rest. Practice good sleep habits and maintain a routine that allows you to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day.

2. Indigestion

ob-gynNausea, heartburn, bloating, and vomiting are common over the course of a pregnancy because of increased pressure on the stomach and changing hormone levels. Women who suffer from acid reflux while pregnant can combat it by consuming several smaller meals throughout the day, avoiding foods that trigger their symptoms, and taking antacids that their OB-GYN has deemed safe.

3. Vaginal Discharge

It is normal to experience more vaginal discharge than usual during pregnancy; however, this discharge should be clear and odorless. If it looks streaky, contains blood, has a distinctive odor, or leaves you feeling itchy, visit your doctor right away for a thorough exam.
