New to Contacts Lenses? Here's How to Put Them in the Right Way, Brooklyn, New York

Wearing contact lenses is the perfect solution for those who don’t have perfect vision but prefer not to wear glasses. However, to make the most of these corrective solutions, you need to know how to put them in. Although this is difficult for many people, there are a few simple steps you can follow to do it the right way.

5 Simple Steps to Properly Insert Contact Lenses

1. Keep Hands Clean

Keep bacteria and dirt from reaching your eye by washing your hands each time you insert the contact lenses. Optometrists recommend using warm water and anti-bacterial soap without perfumes or dyes. Rinse your skin thoroughly, and carefully pat your hands dry with a cloth or paper towel.

2. Check the Lenses

Once your hands are clean, place one of the contacts on top of your index finger. If it looks like a bowl with flat edges, it is ready to be inserted. If it is inside out, the edges will flare instead of lying smooth. Repeat with the other lens to avoid eye trauma.

Follow the technique recommended by eye doctors. Using your right hand, hold the upper eyelid with one finger. Next, pull down the lower eyelid with the other fingers. Look upward as you place the contact in your eye.

4. Move the Lens Around

After you insert the lens, close your eye. Spending a moment with your eye shut will allow the film to settle. Next, look down and blink to the center of your lens for the right fit.

5. Review the Fit

If the lens fits correctly, it will feel comfortable, and your vision will be clear. If you cannot see clearly, your eyes are dry, the lens keeps falling out of place, or you experience discomfort, talk to an eye doctor. They will check your prescription, help you determine the issue, and make adjustments as needed.
