Starting the home search process can be VERY overwhelming! It doesn’t have to be though. Answer the questions below and you will get a clear picture of where to begin your home search.
How much room will I need?
Think about the number and size of bedrooms, the number of bathrooms and even how many garage stalls you need.
How big of a kitchen will I need?
If you love baking, cooking, or entertaining guests, your kitchen tends to be a hub of activity. Keep this in mind when you consider your size requirements for the kitchen.
What are my requirements for a yard?
Consider the size and privacy of a yard. If you have children and/or pets, do you need a fenced yard? If you plan on grilling outdoors and spending time outside with friends, do you need a deck or patio for entertaining?
What are my home preferences?
There are many different types of homes, one story, split level, two story, etc. Do you prefer one style over the other? You should also think about the design. Do you want an open concept or individual rooms? Are vaulted ceilings a must? Is it imperative that the home has central air conditioning?
Where do you want the home to be located?
If you have children, do you want your home to be within the boundaries of a specific school district? If you commute to work, is the home close to public transportation, like a light rail station? If you enjoy shopping, do you want a home close to shopping malls?
Am I willing to spend time and money on repairs?
Older homes may cost less up front, but you may have to spend money repairing the exterior of the home (roof, siding, windows, etc.), the mechanicals of the home (furnace, air conditioning, water heater, etc.), or replacing appliances (refrigerator, stove, washer, dryer, etc.).
