A hot shower can be one of the most calming parts of the day, but it’s hard to relax when stains and mildew are staring you in the face. Cleaning and maintaining a tile shower can seem like a continued project; however, it can be done without much time or effort involved. Here are five tips to keep yours sparkling.

5 Tile Shower Cleaning Tips

1. Prevent Stains & Mildew

Prevent your tile from getting dirty in the first place by using a squeegee or towel to dry your shower after you use it. This will help remove the moisture that contributes to mildew and stains. The type of body cleanser you use can also affect your tile—use body wash or shower gel instead of soap to reduce the amount of residue left in your shower.

2. Try Several Cleaners, If Necessary

There are a variety of cleaners specifically made for tile, but if you’d rather make your own, equal parts bleach and water is a simple homemade cleaner. Some people find a mixture of equal parts blue dish soap and vinegar to be most effective, and it’s also free of harmful fumes. Either can be placed in a spray bottle for easy application to your tile.

3. Give Your Cleaner Time to Work

Whatever you use to clean your tile, it’s important to give it time to work. After spraying your cleaning solution on tile and grout, allow it to sit at least five minutes before scrubbing. This lets the cleaner soak in and break up soap and hard water residue. Then it’s time to use some elbow grease to remove it.

4. Use the Right Tools

5. Finish With Club Soda

A quick rinse with club soda can leave your tile with a shiny finish. After the cleaning solution has been rinsed, wipe down tile with club soda and a rag. It leaves tile with a polished look, and you don’t even have to rinse it.
