Each year, visitors from all over the country pass through Montana on their way to Yellowstone or Glacier National Park. However, many of them miss out on some truly spectacular sights. If you are heading to Big Sky Country this winter, below are some truly remarkable drives local roadside assistance crews suggest you soak up while you’re there.

3 of the Best Scenic Drives in Montana

1. U.S. Highway 191 South From Bozeman to West Yellowstone

During this 90-mile trip, you will ride along the path of the Gallatin River until you briefly come along the western edge of Yellowstone National Park. Throughout the drive, you’ll get to experience the towering Madison and Gallatin mountain ranges, as well as the snow-coated spruce-fir forests and alpine meadows of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness.

2. The Paradise Valley Scenic Loop

This stretch of pavement will then take you into the valley and across the Yellowstone River. Along your drive, you’ll notice the Absaroka Range rising steeply off the valley floor; shortly after, you should also be able to spot the Gallatin Range in the distance. You can soak up these sights until the road ends 32 miles later at its reconnect with U.S. Highway 89.

3. The Smith River Region Backcountry Drive

If you really want to see the remote parts of Montana, drives like this one are those you need to be after. This 92-mile trip will carry you from Ulm in Great Falls on Interstate 15 to White Sulphur Springs. You’ll travel on both paved and gravel roads, so roadside assistance professionals say a four-wheel-drive vehicle might be more appropriate in the winter. During the drive, you’ll go through the heart of the Smith River and see prairies, plains, and forested mountains.

No matter where your winter travels take you, the roadside assistance team at Bolster’s Towing is there to help if you get in a jam.
