How Long It Takes to Sell a House , Atlanta, Georgia

If you’re preparing to sell a house, you may be wondering about how long it will take to complete. Of course, there are many steps involved in real estate ventures, and if this is your first time putting a property on the market, it can feel slightly overwhelming. To better prepare for the upcoming process, consider the helpful information below.

Listing the Home

First, do some research to find a listing agent. At the end of the day, you will be working closely with your realtor in the weeks and maybe even months to come, so you want to hire someone you trust. Finding qualified real estate agents can take as long as you like, depending on how motivated you are, how in-depth the research is, and how quickly you want to sell a house.

sell a houseOnce you do find a listing agent you like, it may take them less than a week to list the home. Most seasoned agents can gather all the information they need on a particular property in three to five days. Then, once they upload the information online, the property will be available for potential buyers to view.

Finding a Buyer

There is no set standard for how long it takes to find a buyer because there are so many factors involved. In general, though, most homes will sell within a few months. According to Realtor.com, the average property stays on the market for 75 days. Of course, because this is an average, it is important to keep in mind that there are significant outliers on both sides of the spectrum.

To look at the total time it will take in terms of foot traffic and potential buyers instead, Business Insider reports the average home will not receive an offer until approximately 20 buyers have seen it. Most sellers then go through two or three offers before settling on the final one. Once you accept an offer, the financial transactions typically take approximately 50 days, so the final closing date will likely be less than two months from the date on which you accept the offer.
