When considering taking out those old inefficient windows, you may ask what type of window is right for my home? Here are a couple things to keep in mind when deciding what type of windows to choose for your home.

What type of siding is on my home?

How are the surroundings of my current window?

What size are my windows?

How accessible are my windows, currently?

These are all great questions to ask before indulging into the growing market of windows manufactures. Manufactures include Pella, Anderson, Vinyl Kraft, Jeld-Wen, Ply Gem, Simonton and more.

New construction windows:

  • Includes a nailing fin to help fasten the window in place.
  • Nailing fin helps with waterproofing and making each window more air tight.
  • Requires removal of siding to install.
  • Usually done during full exterior remodeling projects that also include siding replacement (ST Evans, Inc. suggests LP Smartside with your window replacement.)

Replacement windows:

  • Do not include a fin and fits within existing window frame.
  • Process is quicker and less expensive.
  • Process allows you to only replace rotten sills and rotten trim when necessary.
  • Typically less expensive
