Winter vacation gives kids a well-deserved break from the classroom. However, spending too much time away from courses like math can cause them to forget important methods and equations learned the previous semester. According to the staff at JEI Learning Center South San Jose, a learning center devoted to helping California kids reach academic success, there are several fun, math-focused games students can play during vacation to help them retain knowledge needed for the school year.

Learning Center Staff Shares Three Math Games Kids Will Love Playing During Vacation

1. Dominoes

2. Bingo

During downtime between visiting with friends and out-of-town family, kids can take part in a game of bingo. To make the game more math-focused, write equations on the back of cards. When they are read out loud, kids should shout the answers. Cards can be customized according to grade level. Addition and subtraction problems are best for elementary school kids, while high-schoolers are ready to tackle fractions, geometry, and algebra.

3. Chess

If children have already mastered basic math skills, winter vacation is the perfect time to introduce them to chess. The game, loved by both young and old, helps kids hone mathematical strategies and problem-solving skills to block opponents’ moves, capture their players, and ultimately win the game.

If your child needs help with math, the educators at JEI Learning Center South San Jose are standing by to help.
