Since the implementation of the Common Core State Standards, there is no denying that Math has become more difficult for many students. This is particularly true for “transition” students, those who began learning math under the old curriculum, and were introduced to the Common Core Standards before they could finish high school.

JEI Math

The JEI Core Math Program breaks down concepts and sets small achievable goals for students, so that instead of being asked to climb a mountain, students are asked simply to make it to the next foothold. This approach allows students to build their confidence in their own abilities, an important trait to have in education. JEI understands that while being proficient at operations is very important, that ignoring other areas of math such as geometry, time, money, and fractions can be detrimental to the math ability of students. Because of this, JEI introduces all these topics to students at an early age.

JEI Problem Solving

The JEI Problem Solving Program requires students to use the skills acquired from JEI Math and apply them to complex, real world problems. Understanding of concepts is necessary in order to progress, and students find themselves being challenged and engaged. With the Problem Solving Program, students are encouraged to shift the emphasis to the "why" and "how" of things. This means that students must be able to explain their thought process and reasoning, and learn how to logically think their way through problems.
