Short for Scholastic Assessment Test, the SAT exam was created in 1926 to gauge student’s readiness for higher learning. As enrollment at universities across the nation has become more and more competitive, earning a top score on the SAT is more important than ever. Here is more information on what constitutes a top SAT score, and how SAT prep can help.

Understanding the SAT

What Is A Good SAT Score?

Composed of two sections, mathematics and evidence-based reading and writing, each section of the test is scored on a scale of 0 to 800, with 1600 being a perfect score. Although this point system changed to a 2400 point scale from 2005 to 2016, students taking the test today enjoy the traditional 1600 point format. 1080 is the median score on the SAT, and students scoring 1250 are in the 80th percentile, meaning they have scored higher than 80% of the other students taking the test. Receiving a 1410 on the exam puts you in the 95th percentile, and 1510 means you scored better than 99% of the other students who took the test.
