Canine flu has returned to our neighborhoods, affecting multiple veterinary facilities in the area. To prevent the outbreak from reaching Liberty Vet, or any of our patients, we are going to begin requiring the canine flu bivalent vaccine beginning December 1st, 2017 for all boarders and grooming patients.

The vaccine is a 2-shot series, requiring a booster 2-4 weeks after the initial vaccination. Since it takes several days for enough antibodies to form to reach full effect, it is recommended that you begin the vaccine series now, especially if you plan to board over the Christmas holiday season.

Canine flu is a highly infectious virus which is spread through the air.  So one dog only needs to be in the vicinity of another to contract the disease.  Similar to the human flu, canine flu can be deadly, especially for puppies or the elderly.

If your dog has been sneezing, coughing, or showing other respiratory symptoms, please let us know before coming into the hospital.  Canine flu is so easily spread, that we may choose to treat your dog in your car or in the parking lot.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!
