Nothing rejuvenates the look of your car like professional-quality refinishing. After getting your car back, though, your new coating is still subject to the same hazards that damaged your old one. C & H Body & Fender, Oahu's certified auto body repair specialists, has some tips for helping you keep your new finish looking superb for years to come:

  • Whenever possible, park your car in a garage or under a roof. In many places, sunlight causes more damage than anything else.
  • Tree sap and bird droppings can affect the finish of your car, so avoid parking under trees. If anything does wind up on your car, rinse it immediately with mild soap and water.
  • Hand-wash your car frequently, using only mild soap (not detergent), and water only for the first 30 days.
  • Don’t wash your car when the sun is hottest.
  • Always use water when wiping down your car—never with a dry cloth.
  • Automatic car washes with brushes should be avoided, as the stiff bristles cause scratches to the finish.
  • If gasoline or anti-freeze gets on your car, rinse it as soon as possible with water. Both of these substances are highly corrosive.
  • After painting, don’t wax your car for at least 120 days.
  • Have nicks and scratches touched up immediately, to prevent spreading damage and stains.
  • Never scrape ice or snow off of the painted surface.
