As you may have noticed, toddlers are incredibly active. So stopping in the middle of their day to sleep may seem outrageous to them. Some simply don’t want to lie down and rest, while others may have a difficult time staying asleep long enough. Despite obstacles, parents should establish a standard nap time routine with the help of a few child care tips.

How to Make Nap Time Easier

1. Create a Schedule

child careChildren thrive on routine and consistency, so you should prepare a schedule for nap time. Try to set your little one down for rest at the same time every day, preferably in the early afternoon. This routine will rewire their internal clock and help them know when it’s time to lay down.

2. Build a Calming Atmosphere

To promote more restful sleep, your child should nap in a calm and relaxing atmosphere. Turn off the lights and television and close window shades. If your child prefers, you can also play quiet, calming music or white noise to help them snooze. Allow a comfort item, such as a stuffed animal or doll, for them to snuggle with.

3. Offer a Snack Before

A young child’s rapid growth requires a significant amount of calories, so it’s important to provide a small snack before nap time. This can prevent them from waking up too early as a result of hunger. However, avoid sugary snacks or drinks with caffeine, as these will keep your child too wired to rest.

To establish healthy nap time habits, make sure your child follows a routine, can rest in a calm place, and has a snack beforehand.
