Now that fall is in full swing, many homeowners are trying to find ways to keep the temperature indoors comfortable for their family. A heat pump system is often the most efficient and effective way to maintain a stable temperature that keeps the entire house cozy. However, most property owners have little or no idea how a heat pump system works. Heat pumps are relatively easy to install and maintain, but it’s important to be familiar with how the system works so you can make the most use of it.

Traditionally, a furnace will use electricity to warm the air and, then, move it around your house. A heat pump system, however, acts as an efficient heat transporter, extracting the heat from the cold air, collecting it, and distributing it throughout the space. When your home is too cold, heat pumps extract hot air from outside. When it needs to be cooled down, it pushes the hot air out of the house using a cooling mechanism to chill the air during the switch.

Water-sourced pumps extract power from a nearby lake or pond, air heat pumps take warmth from the air, and geothermal pumps take it from the ground. Heat pump systems don’t actually create heat, so they require significantly less power to run, saving you money each month on utility costs. Each type of heat pump will require a different amount of energy, so costs will vary; but, on average, they offer substantial savings.

If you’re in the market for an energy-efficient and economical way to keep the air in your home comfortable, ask your local HVAC expert about installing a heat pump system. There is very little maintenance to be done and a reliable heating installation expert will set up the new system in no time.
