If you’re a car enthusiast, then you know that few thrills equal the excitement of owning a classic ride. Antique cars allow owners to take their vehicles to vintage auto shows and enjoy outings in style. As every collector knows, however, purchasing a vehicle shouldn’t be taken lightly. To do it right, you must research everything from the type of car to the best time of year to buy.

The Best Times to Shop for Antique Cars

Fall & Winter

antique carsOne of the best seasons of the year for would-be classic car owners runs from late October to January. Any owner interested in doing a proper job of taking care of their vehicle knows that antique autos have to be carefully stored over the winter months to avoid rust and weather damage. Storage spaces can be expensive, which means many owners are interested in selling their vehicles right before they have to winterize them. This is a good time of year to find bargains on all sorts of vehicles.

Tax Season

Late March to early April is another prime time for buyers. Around this time, many people are in the process of getting finances together for taxes, which makes them more likely to sell. If you’re interested in finding a classic vehicle, research the car you’d like to buy earlier in the year, then begin to contact sellers when tax season rolls around.

If you’re a hands-on person like much of the collector community, then one of the best places to do your research is at the Charlotte AutoFair produced by Hornets Nest Regional, AACA. This three-day fair occurs every April and September at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Mecklenburg County, NC. Here, enthusiasts can rent spaces to buy and sell cars and restoration supplies for nearly every vehicle in history. To get in touch, visit the convention’s website or call (704) 841-1990.
