4 Tips to Prepare for a Home Remodeling , Middletown, New Jersey

If you’ve decided to undergo a home remodeling project, it’s time to start thinking of how you’re going to prepare your house. Whether the family will stay put during the renovations or rent temporary lodgings elsewhere, there are tried and true ways to make the process proceed smoothly. The experts at Devine Creations Design Center in Middletown, NJ, have been helping customers for more than 15 years design the home of their dreams. Here, they share some tips to prepare before contractors arrive.

How to Prepare for Home Remodeling

1. Clear Out the Area of the Remodel

First, clear out everything in the areas you plan to remodel. Remove all your belongings and box them up away from the renovation zone so everything stays clean. If you have an open floor plan, remove items that might get dust on them, too.

2. Remove Anything Hanging on Walls

During remodels, contractors will likely need to hammer, take down walls, or remove appliances and cabinets. This can cause the walls to vibrate, so take down any pictures, decorations, or shelves that are on walls near the work space. It’s easier to set items aside for now as opposed to coming home to broken picture frames.

Lots of dust is created during a remodeling project, so it’s important to take an old sheet or plastic to cover all furniture and prevent dust from damaging the upholstery. The contractors will typically block off the renovated space with plastic, but dust can still get through. If you have open vents, either shut them or cover them with plastic, so dust doesn’t travel throughout the rest of the home.

4. Create a Clear Pathway

Your contractors will need easy access to the entry door, renovation area, and the bathroom throughout the day. Designate a clear pathway for everyone, so they don’t need to move items around or make a mess getting to and from one spot.

By following these tips, you can ensure your new home remodeling project creates as little interruption to your day-to-day life as possible.
