The two most popular types of pavement are concrete and asphalt paving. They both have their pros and cons, so deciding between the two can be challenging. What’s the real difference? Grey-Ruso Construction, an experienced paving service in College Point, NY, has insight into both. If you’re still debating between concrete and asphalt, they’re happy to help you make an informed decision.

Concrete Paving

This option is more expensive to install than asphalt, but the trade-off is that it will last for 30 years or more with regular maintenance. If you don’t maintain your concrete, however, bear in mind that repairs are costly and labor-intensive; often, entire sections must be replaced. Concrete is also an ideal choice for hot climates, as it doesn’t get sticky when it heats up.

Asphalt Paving

asphalt pavingIf you need a resilient and cost-effective surface, invest in asphalt. It’s cheaper to lay than concrete, and installation time is much faster; it usually takes only one or two days to set, meaning you can start using your new driveway or parking lot right away. It also melts ice because of its dark color and does not disintegrate when exposed to road salt and other melting agents, making it ideal for cold climates. And while asphalt does require regular maintenance, if repairs are ever necessary, asphalt patching is cheap, simple, and long-lasting.
