As a Family owned and operated local plumbing company we have been proudly serving the Cincinnati area for over 30 years. In our time in the business, we have seen good plumbing work that simply requires a tune-up, as well as other plumbing jobs that require a complete overhaul.

Typically, poorly executed plumbing jobs are the result of unqualified plumbers who do not have adequate training. If you’re a homeowner or building manager looking to hire a qualified plumber, then heed these five tips from the experts at Joe Klosterman Plumbing:

  • Only hire plumbers who are fully licensed and insured: It might seem obvious, but many homeowners don’t think to check up on whether or not their plumber is fully licensed and insured. This happens frequently with online hires from job boards, or when a family hires a general “handyman” to do specialized plumbing jobs. If you want to check up on your potential plumber, you can contact your state’s licensing board, or ask your plumber directly for proof of their license.
  • Figure out what type of plumber you need: There are two general types of residential plumbing professionals. Some handle basic household repairs like leaking faucets, and others handle full-on installations (as in the case of a new construction or renovation). Make sure that you hire a plumber who has experience doing what you’re hiring them for, and that they aren’t just taking you on because they don’t want to turn down a paying client.
  • Get several price quotes for a single job: It’s always smart to comparison shop, and to let each plumbing company know that you’re doing your homework. You’re less likely to get taken advantage of if you have several price quotes from local companies. Plus, you’ll start to learn what different services cost, and an educated consumer is a happy consumer!
  • Ask your friends and read reviews: Word of mouth is helpful and reliable when it comes to hiring service professionals. Ask your trusted friends whom they use for plumbing repair services, and always read online reviews of any plumbing companies that you are considering. You can also ask for references directly from your plumber.
  • If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is: If you get several price quotes and one is significantly lower than the rest, you might want to check on how long the company has been in business, and what their general reputation is. In general, if something seems way too good to be true, it probably is. Lower prices may reflect a lack of insurance, experience, or poor workmanship.

Don’t be intimidated by hiring a plumbing professional. Just follow these five easy guidelines, and don’t forget that you can always call Joe Klosterman Plumbing at (513) 941-6766 if you have any questions.
