The Department of Energy (DOE) proposed new efficiency standards for residential air conditioning and heat pumps installed on or after January 1, 2015, that will help curb residential energy consumption. The minimum efficiency standards for heat pump systems manufactured and sold after 1/1/2015, is 14 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating) and for air conditioners it is 14 SEER in KY and 13 SEER in OH/IN. However, most manufactures to simplify inventory will move air conditioners to 14 SEER. Consumers should remember that higher the SEER rating on the equipment, the more energy savings on your energy bills.
