Today, plastic products are everywhere. If you were to take a look around your home or business, you might be surprised to find that more devices are made out of plastic than any other material. You might have thought these items were made from a different kind of substance altogether. Below are a few such goods you probably have no idea are comprised of plastic.

3 Plastic Products That Might Surprise You

1. Insulation

You’re probably familiar with traditional insulation made out of either fiberglass, paper, or wool, but more and more contractors today are using plastic insulation instead. This is because it offers several advantages the others do not, such as being resistant to bacteria, mold, and moisture while also deterring bugs and animals. Plastic insulation is also better at completely filling the cavities between wall panels.

2. Clothes

plastic productsRecycled PET plastic is a form of polyester, and it has been used in clothing since the 1970s; although, it has come a long way since then. Many manufacturers prefer this fiber because it is inexpensive, easy to blend with other materials, and is no worse for the environment than traditionally grown cotton. If you were to go through your closet today, chances are many of the items would be made with plastic to some degree, especially any pieces made for the wearing on the water.

3. Modern Airplanes & Cars

Both the Boeing Dreamliner and Airbus A350 XWB passenger jets are made with plastic composites. Of course, these are reinforced with other materials, such as carbon fibers, but the plastics are what help make them lighter and more fuel efficient. Also, if you have a car that was made within the last decade, it is likely at least 50% plastic. Like with airplanes, the tough plastic helps improve gas mileage and enhance safety and design features.
