How to Kill Bedbugs 

1. Assess the Infestation

2. Clear the Room

Launder washable items with hot water (at a minimum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit), followed by drying them on high heat for at least 30 minutes. The temperatures will kill the pests. Do not put items back until you have sanitized the room.

Remove bedbugs from the bed frame, headboard, and footboards using a vacuum and scrub brush. Since you cannot use insecticide on your mattress, you will need to throw it away or purchase a bedbug mattress cover. The covers zip completely, which suffocates the insects–you simply throw the cover away after 12 to 18 months. When you reassemble the bed, install bedbug interceptors at the feet.

5. Start the Removal Process

Using a hard-bristled brush, scrub the surface of the room where you've found evidence of bedbug activity. Then, suck up all of the remnants using a vacuum. After you've finished, seal the matter in a trash bag and take it outside.

Though these measures to prevent future infestations can be helpful, bedbug extermination services are usually a more effective treatment.
