A fresh coat of paint can transform your home from drab to dazzling, but only if the job is done correctly. Drips, dents, and damaged belongings can be frustrating to deal with, which is why you should take the time to prepare the space before the brushes are whipped out for indoor painting.

How to Prep Rooms for Indoor Painting

Take Care of Surface Imperfections

indoor paintingEven the slightest drywall imperfections can make a room look unkempt, so take the time to address them. Fill nail holes and divots with spackle, and sand away problem spots. If you have texture on the walls, try to recreate the surface by adding spray spackle in areas that are too smooth.

Do A Little Cleaning

If your walls are covered in dirt, cobwebs, and drywall dust, it can make it difficult for paint to adhere properly. To speed indoor painting and to improve the results, clean the surface carefully. Using a broom, gently whisk away grime, and then vacuum areas where you have sanded with a soft-bristled attachment.

Safeguard Belongings

Paint splatter can permanently damage items like lighting fixtures, furniture, carpet, and upholstery, so be sure to cover anything you need to protect with plastic or fabric drop cloths. Secure the edges of flooring tarps with painters tape to keep them from budging during the project.
