I have never liked Hide-And-Seek, well, not since I hid in the closet and my family moved!

Those baby teeth are hiding and they will move, but not away! There is a marvelous design we call our body. The Master Engineer of all time created even the wonderful process of dentition erupting into the mouth of our precious children.

Infants can be born with what appears to be teeth and are commonly called “Milk Teeth.” The  milk teeth emerge can vary from baby to baby.

Normal dentition for an infant begins at about six months of age and generally is completed when the child is three years old. This is a painful process for the child and so their temperament is a bit fussy, mothers often report noticing the child’s excessive drooling, and a mild low grade temperature is related to this being an inflammatory process as the tooth pushes past the gum tissue in its path.

Many excellent products are available to provide palliative care for this normal and healthy process. Most children’s providers have an assortment of products in a pacifier form, those which can be frozen, just to name a couple. The cold acts as an anesthetic to provide some comfort in this process.

In general, the following timeline applies:

  • At around 15 months, 8 teeth are usually present
  • At around 19 months, 12 teeth are usually present
  • At around 23 months, 16 teeth are usually present
  • At around 27 months, 20 teeth are usually present
